This past friday, I gave a presentation on King Gesar of Ling at the University of Washington as part of a Central Asian Studies Seminar. 

Since it was a friday lecture, mid day, and optional, I was very pleased to see around 15-20 people in attendance.  Out of the entire audience, only three people (two Chinese and one Mongolian) had ever heard of King Gesar or the epic. However, there was a student from Kazakhstan who was familiar with the Manas Epic, another great epic.

I presented the history and culture of the epic, a brief explanation of Thopagawa, Gesar's birth, the Horse Race for the Kingdom, Drukmo's Kidnapping and the Battle of Hor and Ling. 

The audience seemed very interested and asked many interesting and difficult questions. I love getting questions because it gives me things to think about and stuff to try and learn.

I also sang a few Drung (verses of the poem written in song) and although it was not my best performance, I did reasonably and people enjoyed it.  I need to keep practicing!

If you can read Tibetan, then you've probably noticed that my Tibetan isn't great.  I use blogging in part to improve.

Therefore, in writing this blog bilingually, I can learn some Tibetan, however sometimes I will be unable to write in Tibetan and will make posts only in English.

I do also have a Tibetan language blog which is 100% in Tibetan.  I will try to write both Tibetan and English here, but if I can't write both, I apologize.

Sometimes I will write more in the English than in the Tibetan. This is because I can't fully express myself in Tibetan, but still want to write part.
